funky and creamy with notes of cherry liqueur, raspberry, dried figs sweetness, lychee acidity and molasses aftertaste
You might remember this coffee from last year, when we first added it to our offer. Even back then, its playful notes of cherry liqueur and raspberries immediately won us over. The good news is that El Indio has maintained its quality in this year’s harvest, which is why it’s back again! Behind this coffee are smallholder farmers from the region of Tolima. Tolima is one of the country’s most productive coffee regions and has in recent years built a strong reputation in competitions such as the Cup of Excellence. The combination of altitude, climate, and farmers’ expertise creates ideal conditions for complex and juicy flavor profiles. Farmers deliver ripe cherries of the Caturra variety to the ASOPEP processing station, where they undergo hand sorting, fermentation, and subsequent drying on raised beds. This emphasis on precision at every step ensures cleanliness and consistency in the final cup. The centralized processing also helps maintain a high standard across individual microlots. ASOPEP is also a strongly community-oriented organization. Around 30% of member families are led by women who manage farm operations, and there is also a strong focus on education and long-term sustainability. Interestingly, as many as 30% of farmers are young people aged 20–30, which is rather exceptional today and brings hope for the future of the entire region.
